This assignment was to take swatches of printed texture and use them as the background and then place on top of that whatever imagery we chose.  Being an animal lover I chose to do wildlife.  This was the final piece I did in my basic oil painting class and by this time I felt that I had learned how to use oil paint rather effectively.  I also discovered how long it can take to paint details.  I spent 1 hour painting just the eye of the parrot. The painting at the time the assignment was due was only 1/4 completed, and I had already spent 40 hours on it, I had painted a surface area comparable to the other class works, and yet was nowhere near completion. Thankfully the instructor took pity on me and gave me a grade based on what I had completed, shown in the image here.
